  1. Actually, you'll HAVE to claim it on your home insurance. Most auto policies offer no coverage for items stolen from the vehicle unless it was permanently attached.

Be advised, cameras are sometimes subject to coverage limitations on homeowners policies. Hopefully you're:
    a. Covered
    b. Not subject to a $$ limitation
    c. Not using the camera for business use (another restriction)

    Good luck on your claim.

  2. Yes you should be able to. Read your policy, it will tell you what is covered whilst temporarily away from the house. There may be an excess, or even a maximum amount per item.

  3. Well, the auto isn't going to cover it. The question is, will your homeowners cover it. The answer is maybe.

If you use it for business, the standard homeonwers policy will cover it up to $250. If you don't, you'll have to explain what it was doing in your car – and be prepared to back up the explanation.

Your homeowners policy might not include theft, or it might have a limitation of theft coverage outside the house. And if you left your car unlocked, they might not cover. ANd if they do, you could have a limitation on the limit of unscheduled electronic equipment.

You're going to have to call your homeowners agent and ask them.

Check your auto policy first. Some policies, not all cover items stolen from the vehicle. I have collected on a claim like this. If it is not covered contact your homeowners and file a theft claim.
